About Us

Jeff & Nalva met in 1986 in Recife, Northeast Brazil, while Jeff was traveling with an evangelism team from Youth With A Mission. This started a 4-year journey, culminating in their marriage in 1990 in São Luis, MA, Brazil. Since then, they have served with Youth With A Mission as missionaries. As missionaries with YWAM, they are responsible for raising their own financial support.

Youth With A Mission is a global non-profit mission organization with a focus on training, mercy ministries, and evangelism. Jeff and Nalva have both served with YWAM for almost 39 years. For the last 16 years, they have been serving with YWAM in Tijuana and Ensenada, Mexico. They are part of a staff that serves many different ministries.

Hope Changes Everything

Homes of Hope: Engaging a broken world with God’s generosity.

What does a family do without hope? While on a prayer walk in the red-light district (Zona Norte) of Tijuana, our YWAM team noticed a six-year-old girl standing with her mom on the street corner. After speaking with the mother, it became clear that she was selling her own daughter into prostitution. It was a picture of hopelessness. The stark truth of the awful realities this mother faced in order to arrive at that point of desperation stayed with our staff. Amanda and Giezi Niño decided they needed to respond.

Soon it became clear that strengthening families was the best way to offer help in this desperate area of the city. Hope Zone was founded as an initiative of YWAM San Diego/Baja. What started in a local park has now expanded to a full-fledged community center. The ministry of Hope Zone has expanded to the Ensenada community of Mañadero as well. Both in Tijuana (Zona Norte) and Ensenada (Mañadero), Hope Zone exists to bring the light to the darkest places. Our mission is to develop and empower individuals and families through relational discipleship and skill training.

This is all in just a nutshell – We are committed and called to
“Make disciples.”

MISSION ADVENTURE

Each year, during the spring and summer, our campuses transform into full-fledged youth camps. We host youth groups from the US, Canada, Mexico, and even as far as Norway. They come for a week to learn and serve in Tijuana and Ensenada. We spend several days teaching and encouraging the youth, and then send them out into the communities to build homes, work with churches, and serve the local population. Many of our full-time staff members today came on their first mission trip through Mission Adventures. In 2023, we hosted 933 young people through our Mission Adventures program.
